home health care

Home health care enables the elderly and those that are physically, mentally, or medically disabled to continue living in their own homes. Home aides help with housekeeping as well as personal services. In some home health care agencies, a registered nurse, physical therapist, or social worker assigns specific duties and supervises personal and home care aides.

Housekeeping services may include cleaning, doing laundry, changing bed linens, preparing meals (including special diets), and shopping for food. Personal care services may include help getting in and out of bed, bathing, dressing, and grooming. Aides may accompany clients to doctor appointments or on other errands.

Costs associated with home health care are determined largely by the quantity of tasks completed by the aide and the amount of time they assist in the home. Carefully monitor the personal relationship between the patient and the aide. It is important that the patient feels safe, secure, and comfortable. The aide, while filling many different roles such as confident, supporter, and cheerful friend, should still maintain a level of employee and employer respect.
